From that day, Ifeoma became a quiet, steady presence in Winnie’s life.

On the good days between treatment cycles, the two of them sat on the Beacon Hill terrace with sketch pads.

Ifeoma had studied fine art for two years before the company took her, and she taught Winnie perspective and shading.
