I went into the bedroom and pulled out a suitcase and packed what mattered: my documents, my cards, the property deeds, my laptop.
Damian caught me in the hallway on my way out.
“If you walk through that door, you’ll have nothing to come back to.”
I looked at him one last time.
“That’s the point.
