Chapter 8 — The Funeral He Didn’t Invite Me To

There was a funeral, small and private, and I was not invited to it.

I learned about it afterward, learned that Arthur had arranged a brief, discreet service and had not thought to include the man who had spent more hours at his mother’s side in her final months than he had in decades.

It should not have hurt the way it did.

I had no claim to be there, after all.
