I had wanted to name her with Beau, had imagined it for months, and instead I named her with my sister in a dim room at four in the morning, and I have never regretted the company.

Isla.

It means island.

I did not choose it for the meaning, but I have thought since that some part of me knew what I was doing — naming her something whole and entire and complete in itself, needing nothing from the mainland to be what it is.
