I leaned back. The chair groaned beneath my weight. “Your mother hired a very thorough investigator.”
His gaze jumped to mine. “She knew?”
“She knew more than you hoped.”
His grip tightened on the folder. “I have a problem.”
“I know.”
“I mean a real problem. Compulsive betting. Debt. It got away from me. I was going to fix it.”
