I knew that transfer already.
I had seen it as a line on a joint statement a week before, a clean twenty-five-thousand-dollar wire I couldn’t account for, and I had handed that statement to someone whose entire job is accounting for things like it.
The only thing I hadn’t had, until Dagny said it out loud at thirty thousand feet, was what the money was for.
There is a strange steadiness that comes when a last piece drops into a place you already prepared for it.
I did not feel shock.
I felt the click of a thing confirmed.
