When I said something sharp about markets at dinner, she found it precocious. When I paid for a round, she found it touching, that you’d stretch like that. I could have told them exactly who I was at any point in eight months.
I did not.
Partly because Callum never asked.
And partly, if I am honest, because I wanted to see how far down they would put me before anyone thought to check.
I know how that sounds.
It sounds like I set a trap and baited it with my own dignity, and perhaps I did.
