The evidence Julian had built was ironclad.

He had known exactly what he was doing when he assembled it, had built it, I came to understand, specifically to withstand the kind of powerful denial it was certain to meet.

It did not depend on any one witness who could be frightened into silence, or any single document that could be waved away or explained off.

It was a whole architecture of proof, each piece supporting the others, and once it was in the right hands it did precisely what he had designed it to do.
