Chapter 24 — Julian’s Name Cleared
And then came the thing I had not dared to hope for, the thing that mattered to me more than any warrant or any headline.
Julian’s name was cleared.
For ten years he had been, in the official record, a cold case, a young man who had simply disappeared, with the faint and cruel implication that always attaches to such cases, that perhaps he had run, that perhaps he had been unstable, that perhaps he was less than he had seemed.
I had known the truth, and Grace’s very existence was built on the truth, but the world had not known it, and there had been nothing I could do about that without breaking my promise and endangering everything.
