Grace did not know the whole weight of what her grandfather had done, did not carry the ten years of history that stood between him and me.
She simply met him where he was, a lonely old man who wanted to teach a child to fish, and she let him teach her, and in doing so she gave him something that no amount of my forgiveness could have given, which was the simple experience of being trusted by someone who knew nothing of his failures.
