The Truth I Carried Home
And now here I stood on their porch with a child at my side and a bag full of the truth, and whatever fragile arrangement of silence they had built to survive the last decade, I was about to take it apart.
I did not say it to hurt them.
I said it because it was time, because Julian’s ten years were up, because my daughter deserved her history, and because a truth held too long begins to poison the person holding it.
It was time.

They let us in.
I think they were too stunned to do anything else, and perhaps some part of them had been waiting ten years for this knock, dreading it and longing for it in equal measure.
