Two pink lines on a plastic stick in my bathroom. I wanted to keep it wrapped up, just Corey and me, for as long as we could.
Lorraine’s network had other ideas. I hadn’t even told my own mother when she arrived at our door unannounced. She didn’t bring flowers. She brought a manila folder.
“I’ve ranked the best obstetricians in the tri-county area,” she said, dropping it on my counter. “I’ve crossed off Saint Mary’s — the parking is atrocious.
You’ll deliver at Oakwood.”
I stood there with a hand over my stomach. “How did you know?”
She waved it away. “The pharmacist at CVS mentioned Corey buying prenatal vitamins. Now look at this.” She produced a printed spreadsheet. “Baby names.
