One of the officers picked up the manila folder Gavin had dropped, and inside it were copies of my mother’s property deeds and his own handwritten notes about liquidating her assets, and those were quietly secured as evidence.
But the truth is that the folder was almost beside the point by then.
The decisive evidence was already in our hands and had been for days: the threatening messages, the recorded voicemail laying out his extortion in his own voice, the paper trail of transfers he had never been authorized to make, the revoked power of attorney, and now the high-definition footage of him forcing his way onto my property, ignoring a clear warning, and laying hands on me.
It was, as cases go, about as complete as they come.
