The Witness Line
I had prepared a sentence in the car.
I was going to say something about being glad to be there.
I did not use it.
I got about four feet into the room and one of them looked at me and said, “Are you the person?”
And I said yes.
And she said, “Thank God,” and turned back round.
That was the entire interaction.
Eleven words, and then I stood on her left, two feet away, for ninety seconds, and signed a box, and said congratulations, and left.
