I do not remember deciding to.
I remember it being cold and him being there and it being nine dollars for two coffees instead of four-fifty, and then it was a thing I did.
He never asked me for money.
Not once, in two years, not directly and not sideways.
He did not have a cup out.
He had a folding stool and a rucksack and he sat against the brick pillar to the left of the entrance where there is a vent that puts out warm air.
We talked about weather, mostly.
