There was no warrant, no probable cause finding, and no authorization for anyone to be anywhere.

The two men were not police.

One of them was subsequently identified from Harrison’s photograph as a process server with a sideline, and he took a plea in the following spring for impersonation.

The important question was the one Harrison asked in the kitchen that evening.
