“First thing we need is her originals,” the woman said.
She was pouring the wine.
She poured like someone who had been in this kitchen before.
“The birth certificate, the marriage license, the deed, the Social.
Copies won’t hold up at closing, the county’s gotten strict.”
“They’re in the file box in the hall closet.”
“Get them tonight.” A pause.
“And then there’s the other thing.”
