As they walked her out, a luxury sedan screeched to a stop at the entrance. Russell scrambled out, disheveled and broken. “Phoebe! Heather!” He took a fast step forward, and a line of armed security raised their sidearms; he froze.
His eyes swept the helicopter overhead, the officers, the security teams, my brothers — and finally me. For the first time, he understood that he wasn’t dealing with the quiet woman who used to arrange his flowers.
“Who are you really?” he whispered.
Ronald adjusted his glasses. “The woman you locked in your basement is Heather Walton — primary heir to the Walton Financial Group, the private investor who saved your company six years ago, and the person who actually pulled you out of that fire.”
