“Am I going again?” she said, which is how she asks herself things out loud.
“That’s yours.”
“I know. I’m saying it to hear it.” She turned around finally. “Maybe. Not soon. Maybe when I’m fourteen. I want to think about it for a really long time.”
“Okay.”
“Mom.” She was looking at me properly now. “Thanks for not deciding.”
