The Woman Wearing My Earrings
Without my jewelry she looked less like a secret lover and more like what she was: a woman used to entering rooms with information no one else had. Her eyes moved from me to the open desk drawer, then to my handbag.
“You weren’t supposed to be here,” she said, so calm it chilled me.
“My father’s house is not a place where I need permission.” He stepped inside. “Sophia, let me explain.”
“Please do.”
Rebecca glanced toward the hallway. “This may not be the best time.”
“It’s the only time.” My father closed the door. I looked at him. “Did you know Daniel sent me away from our honeymoon? That he was at the villa with Rebecca?”
