My father touched my arm. “Go.”
“What about you?”
“I’ll speak to him.” Rebecca stepped into the passage. I followed, then stopped — a question had been burning in me since I found the letter. “Who is the trustee?”
My father’s eyes filled with a sorrow I couldn’t read. “Your mother named the trustee.”
“My mother is dead. Who did she name?” The study doorknob turned. He whispered, “Someone she believed would always protect you.” Rebecca pulled me into the passage, and the hidden door closed just as Daniel entered.
