I glanced past his shoulder.
Mrs. Gable across the street had completely stopped checking her mail and was staring openly. “No.” Ethan lowered his voice to a frantic hiss.
“The hotel manager locked us out of the suite. The reservation got flagged for fraud. We had to pawn a watch just to afford a flight back. I need access to my checking accounts!”
“Stop saying ‘you know’ and ‘my accounts,'” I corrected, enunciating every syllable. “I terminated the supplementary cards because you stole them.” Rachel scoffed, an ugly, grating sound.
“You had zero right to do that! Everything Ethan has belongs to the marriage. It’s half his!” I couldn’t suppress the genuine, dark chuckle that bubbled up in my throat.
“Actually, the bank vehemently disagrees with your legal assessment, Rachel.” Ethan’s jaw clenched so hard I thought his teeth might crack. “We are legally married, Olivia. Half of that liquidity is mine.”
