The nurse will die.

The child she bears on the island will die.

She will be alone, on a cold rock in the North Atlantic, through winters and summers and the long procession of days.

She will pray and hunt and maintain fire and endure.

And eventually, a Breton fishing vessel will come close enough to the island that the captain will see signs of habitation and investigate, and the woman who was supposed to have been erased from the story will step forward.

She will go home.
