I made no announcement, called no reporters, wrote no wounded post for strangers to read.
I simply had Laura formally notify the venue and the caterers and the vendors, and I quietly revoked Vanessa’s access to my home, my vehicles, and my accounts.
Her belongings were packed and, a week later, handed to her legal counsel with an itemized inventory, so that even in that there could be no accusation against me.
I wanted no part of becoming, in any small way, the kind of person who bends the rules because they are angry and believe themselves righteous.
In time, the law finished its work.
