New stable isotope methods — strontium isotopes for mobility reconstruction, sulfur isotopes for additional dietary information, oxygen isotopes for climate reconstruction — have been developed or refined since the early 1990s.
These methods could have been applied to the Buhl bones to add new dimensions to the information already gathered from carbon and nitrogen isotopes.
The strontium isotope signature of her tooth enamel, for example, could have indicated whether she was born in the Snake River Plain or had grown up elsewhere and migrated to the region where she was buried.
