They concluded that the date was probably not reliable in the way it had been treated in the archaeological literature.

Their assessment was that if the date is reliable — which they considered unlikely — the burial would date to between approximately 12,690 and 12,145 calibrated years before present.

But the critical phrase is “if the date is reliable.”

The paper did not, and could not, say what the true age of the burial was.
