“Are you going to arrest her tonight?” Kevin asked.

“That decision belongs to Detective Miller once he reviews the hallway footage,” the officer said, adjusting his heavy belt as he stood.

“If the video matches what your daughter described, a warrant will be signed before eight o’clock.”

He picked up his cap from the corner of the table and walked out into the corridor, leaving the door slightly ajar behind him.

The officer’s heavy footsteps faded down the hall, and the room went completely quiet.
