Chapter 15 — Room to Breathe

The divorce took nearly a year.

After the forensic audits and the depositions and the endless negotiations, I kept my shares, I kept my own assets, and I kept primary custody of my son, with Joe granted structured, counseled visitation.

It was not a grand act of revenge.

I have never wanted it framed that way.

It was simply room to breathe — a door out of a house I should have walked out of years before.

The day we signed the final decree, Joe was waiting for me in the courthouse hallway, and he looked thinner, worn down, older.
