Claire flipped past the registration bylaws and stopped at a page marked with a yellow sticky note.

She ran her finger down the dense text.

The paper was stiff and smelled strongly of a dusty filing cabinet.

“Rule 4B,” Claire read out loud.

“A sponsor conflict of interest is defined as a direct financial or legal relationship between the funding party and a registered competitor.”

Arthur polished his wire-rimmed glasses with the hem of his sweater.

“Keep reading the small print at the bottom of that page,” Arthur said.

Claire moved her finger further down the stiff parchment.
