“Uh… yes?” Jason stammered, eyes darting between the three strangers. “Who are you?”
“I’m a court-appointed process server,” the man said. He pressed the thick envelope against Jason’s chest, and Jason grabbed it to keep it from falling.
“You’ve been served.”
Jason stared at it as if it were radioactive. His hands began to shake. He ripped the flap open and pulled out the stack of documents. The bold black header of the top page was visible to everyone in the front row.
