Jonah slept in his bassinet. Soft morning light. Peace.
At 9:15, my phone buzzed. A notification from the primary security app: Camera Offline.
My breath caught. On the hidden feed, the nursery door opened.
My mother walked in — not wearing the grandmotherly smile plastered across her Facebook, but a hard, cruel line of a face.
She went straight to the wall-mounted camera, reached up, and deliberately pulled the power cord from the back.
It wasn’t the Wi-Fi. It was never the Wi-Fi.
