Margaret moved fast. By noon every local station was running footage of her dabbing her eyes outside the Whitmore Foundation. “I welcomed my daughter-in-law into my home after my son’s death,” she told reporters.
“She repaid our kindness by stealing millions and manipulating Mr. Bennett. My only concern is protecting my granddaughters.”
Social media did the rest. Some called me a gold digger. Others called me an abusive mother. By evening my eight-year-old had seen one of the videos, and she climbed into my lap with frightened eyes.
