“Do you hate him?”

“No.”

That answer surprised me.

By then I mostly hated the memory of who I had been around him.

I always promised Mason:

“When you’re older, I’ll tell you everything I know, and you’ll get to decide what you want to do.”

I believed I was protecting his choice.

I did not yet understand how much choice requires information.
