PART 15

The City Meeting

Keisha arranged a meeting at the community center the following Thursday.

She invited the parks coordinator, a representative from the local housing nonprofit, the owners of a small bicycle shop, and two parents whose children had received repaired bikes.

Walter arrived carrying his notebook in a clear plastic folder.

He wore a fresh shirt someone had given him and looked deeply uncomfortable among the neat chairs and printed agendas.

“I don’t need a parade,” he told Keisha.
