He glanced at it. Then he froze. The color drained from his face. He typed the sequence into his encrypted terminal, his eyebrows shooting up nearly into his hairline.
“Right this way, Mrs. Harrington,” he said, his tone shifting from polite indifference to terrified reverence.
He led me past the security gates and down into a subterranean, climate-controlled vault, unlocking a massive steel deposit box with a retinal scan and two physical keys, then stepped back and bowed his head to give me privacy.
Inside the cavernous box was a single thick leather binder. Stamped on the cover in gold foil was a logo I’d never seen: Shadowbox LLC.
I lifted it onto the viewing table, my hands shaking, and flipped it open.
The first page was a corporate registry document. The sole owner, chief executive, and primary shareholder of Shadowbox LLC was Caleb Harrington.
