We took down a weathered flyer from a community board where permission had been given years before.

The photograph showed an eighteen-year-old with a smile I had used because I wanted strangers to see somebody worth noticing.

My sister held the tape while I folded the paper.

“What do you want to do with it?”

“Keep it for now.”

She nodded.

I did not need to throw away proof that we had searched in order to welcome the person we had found.

Later, she told me she was still angry.
