So there was nothing to grieve.

There was only the strange, light shock of waking up from a very long, very convincing dream and finding that the real morning was better than the dream had been — that I still had my house, and my savings, and my children, and my hard-won peace, and that the only thing I had lost was a weight I had been about to shackle to all of it.

Losing that is not heartbreak.

Losing that is rescue.
