You will never have to work a double shift, or count out your tips to make rent, or cover someone else’s dinner bill, ever again for the rest of your life.
It’s over.
The part where you carry all of it alone.
It’s over.
I did not cry, in that moment, though I would later, many times, in the weeks that followed, as the reality of it slowly sank in.
In that moment I mostly felt a kind of vertigo, a sense of the world reorganizing itself too fast for me to keep up.
