Luke took the legal document with deep respect. “Your grandfather was an incredibly wise man, Mother.”

“Is the contract still fully enforceable?” I asked.

“Attorney Davis already reviewed every single clause,” Luke confirmed. “He was one of my grandfather’s top students, and he’s waiting for us in the hotel lobby right now with certified copies of the contract.”

I closed my eyes for a moment, overcome. My father had died three years earlier, but he was still defending me from beyond the grave.

“What exactly do you want to do right now?” Luke asked me, with a calm expression that almost hurt to see.
