Then I walked to the entrance, picked up my packed suitcase, and stood by the open door.
“Barbara,” Marvin stammered, his eyes filling. “Please don’t leave. We can start over.”
“You never wanted a wife, Marvin,” I said. “You wanted a free employee who was too frightened to quit.”
