cave.<\/p>\n<p>It is an open site \u2014 a cemetery on the surface, or just below it, established by Archaic hunter-gatherers along the rich resources of the Guadalupe River valley.<\/p>\n<p>But its age is extraordinary.<\/p>\n<div data-onpage=\"true\" data-adpath=\"\/22756311368\/LaptopsVilla\/Blog_InContent_24\"><\/div>\n<p>Radiocarbon dating using tooth and bone collagen samples from multiple individuals placed the earliest burials at Buckeye Knoll at approximately 8,500 years before present \u2014 the beginning of the Early Archaic period in Texas, a time when the last of the great Pleistocene megafauna were disappearing and the continent was still adjusting to the climate of the post-glacial world.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p>Eight thousand five hundred years earliest experiments with rice cultivation.<\/p>\n<p>And on the coastal plain of Texas, people were burying their dead in a cemetery that would be used, continuously, for thousands of
