world.<\/p>\n<div data-onpage=\"true\" data-adpath=\"\/22756311368\/LaptopsVilla\/Blog_InContent_8\"><\/div>\n<p>And extracting that record from a tooth in a Liverpool museum was one of the most results of ancient DNA analysis from Egypt could not be trusted.<\/p>\n<p>The other fundamental obstacle is the climate.<\/p>\n<p>DNA degrades faster in warm conditions.<\/p>\n<div physical preservation are hostile to the molecular preservation of DNA.<\/p>\n<p>Svante P\u00e4\u00e4bo, reflecting on his early failed attempts, has described the Egyptian climate as one of the most complete genomes \u2014 they were partial sequences from target-enriched analysis, providing somewhere between 90,000 and 400,000 genotyped positions rather than the full three billion base pairs of all.<\/p>\n<p>Until the tooth.<\/p>\n<p>The Man At Nuwayrat: NUE001<\/p>\n<p>He is known in the scientific literature as NUE001 \u2014 a designation that reflects the precision of the genetic database rather than the full complexity of a human life, but one that will stand as this individual&#8217;s permanent scientific identity.<\/p>\n<div data-onpage=\"true\" data-adpath=\"\/22756311368\/LaptopsVilla\/Blog_InContent_18\"><\/div>\n<p>NUE001 was an adult male.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p>His remains were found at the burial site at Nuwayrat, in Middle Egypt, interred in the ceramic vessel burial style that the Egypt Museum describes as associated with non-elite individuals of certain periods.<\/p>\n<div data-onpage=\"true\" data-adpath=\"\/22756311368\/LaptopsVilla\/Blog_InContent_19\"><\/div>\n<p>The radiocarbon dating of his remains places his death somewhere between 2855 and 2570 BCE \u2014 a range of roughly 285 years that straddles the transition from the Early Dynastic period into the Old Kingdom, with the archaeological artifacts and funerary practices in his tomb attributable to the Third and Fourth Dynasties.<\/p>\n<p>The Old Kingdom, which corresponds roughly to the Third through Sixth Dynasties and the dates 2686 to 2181 BCE, is one of the most celebrated periods in Egyptian down biological material can destroy DNA in bone and muscle far faster than they can penetrate the dental enamel.<\/p>\n<div data-onpage=\"true\" data-adpath=\"\/22756311368\/LaptopsVilla\/Blog_InContent_41\"><\/div>\n<p>The proportions of these sources in NUE001&#8217;s genome were approximately 80 percent North African Neolithic ancestry and approximately 20 percent eastern Fertile Crescent ancestry.<\/p>\n<p>Two alternative three-source models were also found to be statistically consistent with the data, including an additional smaller contribution from Chalcolithic Levantine populations \u2014 the peoples of ancient Canaan and the Levant.<\/p>\n<p>But the simpler two-source model was the best-fitting, and the eastern Fertile
