“Over the past twenty-four months, these two individuals systematically diverted more than seventy-two thousand dollars from Nora’s personal allowance accounts, funds that my client wired directly, and exclusively, for her mother’s care.”

The word he used was siphoned, and it landed in the warm night air and stayed there.
