You Broke the Wrong Laptop
I had not planned the break-in.
I want to be clear about that, because there is a version of this story in which I engineered the whole thing, and while I am proud of the decoy and the camera, I did not do that.
What I had done was subtler, and more important to understand.
I had made myself ready.
When Julian saw those audit files on the shared server and panicked, when he decided to come and destroy the evidence, he was acting on his own arrogance and his own fear, entirely of his own volition.
All I had done was ensure that whatever he chose to do, it would be captured, and that the thing he came to destroy would not be the thing that mattered.
