That evening, I was standing in my kitchen when my phone began to vibrate across the counter, and Julian’s name lit up the screen.

I considered ignoring it.

Curiosity won.

“What have you done?” His voice filled the room the instant I answered.

I looked out the windows at the lights spreading across Denver.

“You’ll need to be more specific.” “You canceled my mother’s card.” “It was my account, Julian.” “She was humiliated tonight,” he said, and there was a genuine fury in it that I found, distantly, satisfying.
