I walked over to her. She flinched, holding up her hands.

I didn’t strike her. I reached out, gripped the clasp of my grandmother’s pearl necklace at her throat, and unhooked it.

I pulled it away, then held out my hand. “The earrings, Vanessa. Now.”

With shaking hands, she pulled them off and dropped them into my palm.

“You have ten minutes to pack exactly what you brought here,” I told them, my voice empty of emotion. “Anything else you try to take will be theft.”
