You Failed the Test
Meyers kept his face neutral.
“Ms. Reed is offering to cooperate. In exchange, we’ve agreed to inform the district attorney that she came forward voluntarily and turned over evidence.”
“Everything’s on it,” Vanessa said. “Daniel’s sloppy. He thought I was a pretty face to hang on his arm, so he left his laptop unlocked around me for months. The offshore accounts he used to hide marital assets. The original, un-doctored documents proving he forged your signature. Emails between him and his lenders, laughing about how you’d take the fall.”
She shrugged. “I’m a survivor, Emily. When a ship sinks, I find a lifeboat. Daniel’s a corpse.”
I looked at the drive but didn’t touch it. Meyers did, sliding it into an evidence sleeve.
“The forgery case was already airtight,” Meyers said to me. “Handwriting, the server IPs. But this corroborates motive and intent, and it hands the SEC the offshore accounts directly. It turns a strong case into an unarguable one.”
