Chapter 7 — The Restaurant
At the restaurant, David played the loving husband he wanted everyone to see. He pulled out my chair and ordered wine for me without asking.
I never touched it. “You’ve seemed tired lately,” he said. “I’m worried about you.”
“I’ve been worried too.” Then I slid a folder across the table.
David opened it, and the color left his face. Inside were copies of his fabricated notes, Eli’s payment records, the guardianship documents, and the correspondence about the cabin.
“I know about Eli,” I said quietly. “I know you’re trying to have me declared incapable so you can take control of my property and sell it.”
He recovered fast.
