The passing of Newhart’s wife was also covered by numerous news outlets, noting that she was 82 at the time of her death and is survived by her husband, four children, and an amazing ten grandchildren.
In 1960, a mutual acquaintance set up Newhart and his wife on a blind date, marking the beginning of a fantastic relationship between the two. When Buddy Hackett and Newhart were guests on “The David Susskind Show,” Buddy Hackett suggested that Newhart go on a date with a woman he knew.
Hacket thought Newhart should know Ginny because she was Irish Catholic and both he and Ginny were Catholic. Hacket smirked, “You’re going to meet her, date her, and marry her.” When you have children, one of them will be referred to as “Buddy”.
Newhart knew she was the one for him because they got along well and shared similar beliefs. After they married in 1963, the couple honored Buddy by naming one of their daughters after him.
Ginny worked as an extra in movies, but despite both being in the entertainment industry, they managed to build a beautiful life together without ever going to an A-list party or hanging out with the rich and famous. They preferred to spend time together at home.
Asked if he regretted his decision to marry his wife at the time, Newhart said no. Instead, he thought he would marry his wife sooner if he could afford it.
He reflected on the day his debut album was released and reached its highest point in the charts, regretting the fact that he had no one to share the moment with. Newhart wishes he could share it with Ginny, even though he knew he couldn’t afford to be married.
Ginny, according to Newhart, was the whole thing.
After Newhart married Ginnie, she witnessed all of his triumphs and failures. She constantly supported him when he performed, even when things didn’t go as planned. He finally had someone to talk to about everything.
Ginny constantly elevated her husband, but she also understood how to bring him down. Ginny once asked Newhart to take out the recyclables. Newhart was pushing her because he was feeling particularly pleased that particular day.
He asked Ginny if she thought Angelina Jolie asked Brad Pitt to get rid of the recyclables when she gently asked him to. Ginny immediately made a joke that if Newhart was Brad Pitt, she wouldn’t have asked him to do it.
Robert William Newhart, Jennifer Newhart, Courtney Newhart, and Timothy Newhart were the couple’s four children born during their many years of marriage. The nickname their daughter was given is a tribute to Buddy Hackett, who arranged Newhart and Ginny’s first date.
In an interview he did in 2019, just after turning 90, Newhart — now 93 and recently widowed — discussed what it was like to be 90 and what it was like to be married for so long.

But Newhart had no idea he would live to be 90 years old. He claimed that since both his mother and father died in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he believed he had inherited their genes for long life.
The actor recently experienced the loss of close friends and spoke about how it affected him. However, he also expressed gratitude for living this long and making friends along the way.
Losing friends like Don Rickles, Mike Conners, and Tim Conway allowed him to set things straight, Newhart said. He started spending more time with his family and his close friends.
Although he is dearly loved by his children and grandchildren, not everyone took to comedy. However, when he was only twelve years old, his grandson, who is now 15 years old, tried standup.
When Newhart asked if he enjoyed his set, the youngster replied that some of the jokes were funny and some weren’t, but he still stood his ground. Newhart then gave him confidence by adding, “That’s the key. You’ve got to put one foot in front of the other as you go forward.”
Now that he has a large family, Newhart is constantly posting about his wife on social media. In January of this year, he posted pictures of himself and Ginny over the years and mentioned the anniversary of their first date.
Before revealing that their wedding was set for January 12, 1963, he explained how Hackett arranged for them to go on a blind date. He claimed that they wanted to commemorate the day by sharing their favorite photos. Such a cute couple.
