Born on July 22, 1943, in Santa Monica, California, Bobby Sherman spent his early years in the nearby community of Van Nuys. Surprisingly, he was playing trumpet well by the age of 11, as well as piano, trombone, keyboard, and of course guitar. Sherman pursued his education at Birmingham High School, where he became a part of a musical ensemble and uncovered his passion for music. Over the years, he is said to have mastered the playing of an impressive 16 instruments.
After completing high school in 1961, Sherman enrolled at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, situated near Los Angeles. During his tenure at Pierce College, he cultivated a connection that would ultimately redefine the path of his life. He originally met his girlfriend there while studying child psychology, and later accompanied her on the set of “The Greatest Story Ever Told.”
By this time, Sherman had embarked on his musical journey, playing with bands in the San Fernando Valley. Many acknowledged his talent, and he seized the chance to display his abilities at the gathering. Looking back on that moment, he once remarked, “I was consistently the individual unafraid to step forward and sing in front of an audience.”
Also, Bobby had friends at parties who played on stage with the band, which may have boosted his confidence. However, he bravely took the stage and delivered vocals to Ray Charles’ “What I’d Say.” To his surprise, many entertainment veterans, including Sal Mineo, Natalie Wood, and Jane Fonda, attended the Hollywood party.
